Great! Another project for me to get started on!
Which paphs do you find work best for mounting?
Thanks so much for your input on this subject

Be careful, the villosum I talked about was more than likely a one off (I should have said this on the last reply). This particular tree was heavily laden with moss were the Paph was growing, which would easily replicate normal terestrial type conditions I have also seen pictures of Pleonies growing the same way Most of the Paph's that grow on a host tend to be Lithophytic rather than Epiphytic, of those mainly the mutiflorals tend to grow in this fashion. If you are going to try doing this then use a sacrficial lamb, if it doesn't work then no harm done , if it does try others.
Regards Craig

I am kinda confused... where are the mounted Paphiopedilum in the picture? I only see some smaller plants that belong to Vandae, but no members of Cypripedioideae... pretty cool natural mounting though! Do you have any pics of mounted Paph.? =)
Thanks,
-PM

I'm with Ray. I grow paphs in half chopped sphagnum and half diatomite and am getting great roots (with niveum, etc). I grow inside, and the sphagnum seems to keep the local humidity around the roots high without actually keeping the roots soaked.

Aboard drew-pruett, glad you could join us at the OB. You will find a wealth of information here and please use the gallery and share your chid addiction with us... How often do you water your paphs, mine are very slow to produce, with the paph's I am sparing with watering anywhere between 7-10 days and actually feel it's not enough. Had my Paph. shadow magic x macabre pie bloom once in 16 months .. I think its pissed at me for some reason (roots are really sensitive to air restrictions ), my wardii (mount) is doing wonderfully, any pointers for indoor paph's??? minimal reading material when it comes to particulars.

I water once per week, fertilize with 1/4 strength every time I water, and flush once every 2 months. I try only to grow calceolus paphs because here in Texas, our CaCO_2 content is 42ppm, and only RO will get it out. I've had pretty good luck with keeping good roots, but I'm not blooming very well (I think my light levels are off).
Has anyone else out there tried to deal with extreme heat? (115+ daytime GH temps)
