Default Paph. Joyce Hasagawa 1st bloom seedling

Paph. Joyce Hasagawa first bloom seedling made with delenatii 'dunkel '.
Great spotting on inside of pouch but a bit of asymmetry in the petals. NS 96mm (would be more if both petals were in the same plane).

Very nice. Interesting mix of traits from the parent species. Wonky petals are par for the course with a lot of parvies, so it doesn't bug me one bit and besides, it may be flatter/improved next time it blooms. Is this fragrant? Even if not, give it a few days. Both parent species can carry fragrance.

Fragrance was one of the first things I checked for when it bloomed. Both of my cultivars of delenatii are fragrant (one very much so, from the original collection). I've never had emersonii so I have no experience with it. Is the fragrance similar to delenatii?

Good question. I've not bloomed P. emersonii (yet) and I haven't been close enough to one in bloom at the right time of day to smell, so I'm not certain. However, depending on the nose, P. emersonii's scent is described as floral, musky, and/or chocolatey.

I suspect different people pick on on the notes differently and there's possibly even a bit of variation in the scent between clones/populations. The same is true for P. delenatii. For instance, to me delenatii smells similar to southern magnolias when you catch a whiff from a distance, but some folks describe it as citrusy, where as others describe it as rose like.
