How long does it take for new growth, or fans, to become mature and bloom

I have been searching the whole internet to find the answer to my question, but still nothing.

How long does it take for new growth, or fans, to become mature and bloom? Is there a difference on how fast between green and strap-leaf ones grow?

On my neofinetias it can take 3 to 4 weeks from the first sign of a spike to the blooms opening. Hard to wait that long, but it is worth the blooms.

It varies greatly, depending upon the species, or the species in the background of hybrids.

I have seem Maudiae-type Paph hybrids bloom in 6 months, while my Paph. stonei has been maturing without blooming, for 2 years.

For some strap leafed paphs from the initiation of a new growth to its eventual flowering can take many years. For paphs which do not have strap leaves a year or two.

If you are interested in faster results, buy unflowered mature growths, and stay away from most strap leafed paphs even if unflowered and mature.

They will not bloom without appropriate light whether they are mature or not-- that's the first thing. In "the wild" so called, when they get maximum light levels, they tend to grow faster and thus bloom faster. So for faster results, higher light. They also need calcium and other minerals that are not found in potting mix or in many brands of fertilizer. The strap leafed paphs are generally lithophytes, or semi-terrestrial, and grow on cliff faces in overcast sun.

Oh, it is easy to get frustrated with "strap leafed" paphs and so on due to slow growth. I don't think that is any reason not to try to grow them. I don't think that orchids are "instant gratification" type plants.
