Karma finally caught up to me. I picked up a few new plants today and was trying to "sneak" them into the grow room and strategically place them so that they wouldn't be noticed and in my haste i snapped the flower spike off an oncidium. I was totally heart broken. Im actually still pouting about it.

Well done for getting them in there. I have done that at times before, I feel very naughty but that's life on the edge!!! lol.

Just don't get caught........that's worse than if they find out months later. I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

I know how you feel! There is nothing worse than breaking a bloom spike. My husband broke one of the phal spikes a couple months ago and I had a fit! However about a week later it sent a spike out from just below the break and it is blooming like crazy now. So don't be too hard on yourself. Keep sneaking them in, your husband will stop caring at about 60-70 orchids!

Well, I bought 7 yesterday at the show, to add to my collection of 26. Found some things I'd been lusting after - I was glad I went early! The show was much more fun than last year - I've done a lot of reading and actually knew what I was looking at most of the time, instead of being totally overwhelmed.

When I brought the 'chids home, I showed them off to my family. Husband looked at them and made polite "that's nice" comments. Teenage daughter (not into flowers at all) rolled her eyes and made sarcastic comments. Thank goodness neither one asked how much $$$ I'd spent!

They are both collectors too, though, they know about obsessions. Husband collects railroad and sports memorabilia, daughter collects movies and clothing.

Hi Sheila!
It's so hard to come home from finding some wonderful orchids and have no one interested! That's what I love about OB. Everyone here understands that "feeling" we get with our babies, new or old!
Now Sheila, didn't you manage to forget two essential bits of information for us? What you bought and of them!
You kind of left us hanging.

Well, Sheila, that was quite an omission, wasn't it?

We ARE interested and want the details. I need to know what you got and will need photographc documentation.

This thread IS hilarious...You guys are way to funny!

Now I know why we all love to collect orchids, it's like having a sneeky, exciting and beautiful affair!

I am SO DISAPPOINTED today, we are SNOWED in and more snow coming...I can't make it out of my driveway/street to get to the orchid show today! I'm supposed to be on security!....I can't believe it, I wait ALL YEAR for this show....I'm hopefull that tomorrow will be better and I'll try to get there no matter what! NO 4 wheel drive....
No more 'chids coming in the house today...hubby will be happy! But just wait until tomorrow!

Made it through the storm to the show this morning. Was a pretty rough drive. And then I spent way too much money and only came home with 4 new orchids. 2 of which are Den's. And for those of you that don't know, I'm known as the Northeast Dendrobium Killer. They're they only thing that I can't get to thrive for me and yet I got them anyway. I couldn't help myself. Maybe I'll do better this time????? so here they are...... Dendrobium aggregatum 'Alice', Dendrobium kingianum (just a little keiki that one of the vendors popped off and gave to me), a Paph 'Larry Bird'....darkest paph I've ever seen, just opened yesterday and the last one is a Zygosepalum 'rhein clown' (camera crapped out before I got a pic of that one)
