Well..... if you're going to drag it out of me, I also use the 'Just divided some plants' trick. This works great when you get additions of the same type as what you already have, but be warned, its difficult to pull off when they are in flower. Best used 'out of season'....

Can't believe you said that! Just last night I was looking at my 6 new paphs and thought, hummm, I could say I divided them up....too funny! How devious we are....

You guys are toooo funny. I have already admitted in several different threads that I somehow get all these new guys mixed into my group already here. I keep mixing them up and mounting and trading with a friend. Mostly unblooming at the time. So when a show or sale comes up I can legally add a FEW more.

Oh use the word "division" that works too.

Do what I do - I just keep the grow room so messy that he's scared to go in there because he'll trip and fall over something!

This is a hilarious thread! Helen - uh oh... the RGB show is coming up this weekend! Maybe you should bring hubby and have him see how glorious the displays are ... then tell him that if you get more orchids, your living room can look like that too! (a bit of a lie, but it's still partially true! )

I'm currently relationship-less, and my qualms are with my dear mother...but strangely she's become quite tolerant of my plants (she used to complain about how there's not enough space in the house bla bla bla). Not too sure what's caused the change ..maybe there are various stages leading down the path of acceptance! The first stage is denial (it's just a phase, they won't really be serious about this), the second stage is irritation (what? another plant? You can't be serious! One day I'm going to rip all your plants out and chuck em!), the third stage is fear (oh no...is that another cardboard box? from that oakhill place?! It can't be...wait...oh cr** yes it is!), and ultimately if your lucky, your SO will grow to accept your hobby

This thread gives me a chuckle or two. Wife is really tolerant of my obsession and has adopted to some extent. I buy 100 or so cymbidiums at a time and get away with it by hiding the little guys between the big but am getting caught because the darn things grow!
My growing area is approx 40 X 40 yes feet and need to be expanded to accomodate the growing plants. To expand the growing area I will have to move her Merril lemon which produces lemons the size of softballs, the calamanse lime or the quava. That will lead to terrible distress. There are some more cymbidiums for sale that I want - something has to give here. Thinking of buying a farm.

O yea there will be distress if you move her lemon tree of the three I'd opt to move the guava or lime depending on how big they are and how quickly you can replace them if they go downhill. Why don't you grow your area up or did you already do that?

Well lets see if there is a possible plan. The greenhouse is 20 X 40 crammed full of paphs prags cats, phals vandas, stanhopeas, you name it - you have to lean over to walk thru in the winter - the shade house is 40 X 40 and is where the cymbidiums grow. Have Nobile Dendrobiums and Pendalous cymbidiums hanging plus the Vanda's in the summer. Have been pretty creative about space use. I try to keep water from one plant from running onto another - if possible because of a concern about virus spread - is there and orchids anomous? I am hopeless - but then thats what I retired to do. That lemon tree is a big problem and really needs to be moved. It is too close to the growing area and attracts thrips. That is not a sufficient reason to move it according to DW. The lemonade is really great - fresh lemons from end of November till April or May.
