Thanks everyone for your nice comments. If a bloom like this one doesn't get you hooked on slippers nothing will!

Terri, it's beautiful...Congrats!! I just bought a Paph delenatii yesterday! I was told it was going to be white with the pink lip. I have a question I hope you can help me with. The label says it's a vietnamese sib. What does this mean exactly? I was told it was rare? unless I heard wrong.
There is also a number on the top of the tag 1937. This was on the tag from two owners back, so I rec'd no explanation on the 1937. Do you think this has something to do with a year? or a ID #?
I thought it might be a year seeing that they were discovered in 1920s and perhaps this has been divided /seeds down the years? or am I getting crazy here?
Thanks
Helen

Helen - Check this out - it might answer your question -
Paph. delenatii (Compact): Orchids By Hausermann

I have been reading that these crosses may produce larger pouches with uniform color ranging from pinks to dark pinks to purples and wider petals.

When crossing two plants which are grown from the same parents we call it a sibling ( or when plants are grown from one seed capsule and are crossed). (from Lotte & Thomas Orchids)

I think the number is an ID# and not a date.

Helen, I know there are two different strains of this species. The lighter colored one was discovered in Vietnam in the 1920's. The one with the darker color is a more recent discovery in a different region of Vietnam. The lighter one is supposed to have a light fragrance, the darker one no fragrance. I have also heard the darker colored one is a bit more hardy and easier to bloom. Mine is also a sib cross, but there aren't any numbers on my tag.

You're going to love this one when it blooms. It really made me feel like I accomplished something grand!

Thanks Dots!

Helen check this link from Gore. They have a very good explanation of the two different forms.

Gore Orchid Conservatory - Paph Catalog - Paphiopedilum slipper orchids

You'll need to scroll down aways. Looking at the form and color of my flower I'm guessing I have the southern Vietnamese form.

Thanks Terri, the Gore site was very interesting with lovely photos...Love the delenati...I guess mine is definitely the older version, as it is supposed to be white, but we will see!

Now Jim! they are absolutely LOVELY! I hope mine will be that beautiful...can you tell me how long I may have to wait for a bloom? I was told that it blooms with tiny leaves as they grow very very small .... that's why I have no idea when it will be ready.
I just got them on Sunday.
