Paphiopedilum spicerianum
A very undemanding Paph even with our abhor able high mineral water. It thrives. Plus it doesn't mind the our cool damp winter. I left outside last winter and now it is giving me two blooms, even though they face opposite directions 😫

Right now I have exactly one Paph in my collection. For whatever reason, they have troubled me in the past. The plant I have, though, is now doing very well - well enough to encourage me to want more Paphs. I've previously grown and bloomed spicerianum, and had no doubt, even before seeing yours, that when I add another it will be this species. Yours is beautiful, and is inspiring me to make this addition soon!

I have difficulties growing paphs as well, mainly due to hard water in LA.
This paph however loves hard water! May be that is why it is thriving. Also it originates from higher up in the mountain with winters similar to here in Southern California except dryer.
If you have having problem growing paphs, I would test the ph level of your water. Most modern hybrids resent hard water in my experience.

Actually, the problem I have isn't water. Paphs and I have simply not seen eye to eye in the past. I'm working to play nicer with them. |
