As you can see the abbreviation of the second cross starts with "Den."

Googled standard orchid abbreviations and came up with the obvious Dendrobium.

Is this a mistake? And who comes up with these names?!

This is a clear case of a tag that just got made too hastily for basic accuracy checking. That should say Paph. Hilo Citron. That is a legitimate name. There is no Den. Hilo Citron, and such a cross would be impossible anyway.

The tag indicates a cross between two Paphs. That cross has not been given its own name yet, so the tag gives full identification of both parents.

Registered cross names are selected by the person who pays to register them, with the permission of the person who originated the cross if it is someone else wants to register it, and with the approval of RHS. That name then applies to all plants that result from crossing those 2 parent species or hybrids.

'Cultivar Names' in single quotes are given to a single plant, and can be given by anyone at any time as long as there hasn't been a previous cultivar name given. The cultivar name then applies to all divisions or clones of that one plant.

Nice one though. It's kind of a funny mistake.

I have noticed sometimes really funny mistakes come out of Hawaii. Things seem to get all bonged up sometimes.

Oddest dendrobium I ever did see. Reminds me of the time I was reading and distracted while making a bowl of cereal. The milk was put on the shelf and the cereal box in the fridge. Luckily I realized what I was doing shortly and corrected it before spoilt milk. Your label maker maybe didn't catch it in time.

Hahaha, nice. so investigating a bit, it seems that there is alot of lawrenceanum in both crosses. Gonna put it further away from my grow light and keep it damp. It'll have good air movement.
