Paphiopedilum Black Diamond 'Pinker Belle'
Default Paphiopedilum Black Diamond 'Pinker Belle'

This is my (yet another lucky) latest acquisition from this past weekend at the Toronto Artistic Chinese Show. I thought it was so beautiful with pink blushing on an Oriental looking flower. It's the albinistic cross of (delenatii album x fairerianum album). I got this from the Kennedy's of Our Tropics orchid nursery (thanks Doug and Theresa!).

This primary hybrid shows the best of both parents; the round pouch, size and pink color of the delenatii, and the broad dorsal sepal and upswept petals of the faireanum ... The mottled leaves are a plus too!

I named this cultivar 'Pinker Belle' to reference the coloration and a play of words similar to the timeless Tinker Bell.

One of my favorites (almost all fairrieanum hybrids are). What I would like to know though, is how someone came up with that name for this type of flower.

Thanks all.

Not sure how this grex name was determined as the flowers look nothing like a diamond nor black. It was registered a long time ago.

Because a Black Diamond is rare and beautiful just a guess.

But really didn't I sound like I knew what I was talking about
