Not taking any credit away for growing this superb plant, but Paph delenatii isn't a Brachy (subgenus Brachypetalum). It is perhaps the most easily grown Parvi (subgenus Parvisepalum), and tends to be a much more vigorous clump forming plant than almost any Brachy, as well as pretty commonly bifloral (even trifloral) when grown well. But this plant does exceed the existing AOS cultural awards for this species in number of spikes and flowers, and appears to be immaculately grown, so probably fully deserving of a cultural award. Well done!

To be fair, if you are old enough to remember books printed before 1982 Paph delenatii was essentially a Brachypetalum by default. There was no subgenus Parvisepalum until then when Paph armeniacum was described and someone realized delenatii was no longer alone.

The Great Lakes Judging Center was this past Saturday at the U of M Botanical Garden. I debated taking it, but it was a 90M drive and the weather was below freezing so I didn't. Oh well, there's always next year if I can keep it from falling apart during this years repot. And if you get right down to it, what good does a cultural award do for you anyway?

The cultural award goes to the grower, a praise of great skill to grow such a robust flowering specimen. It acknowledges you forever on record!
