Paph. (glaucophyllum x 'Sib') rescue... is it worth it? Male
Default Paph. (glaucophyllum x 'Sib') rescue... is it worth it?

So, I was gifted this Paphiopedilum from my best friend's mother. She won it in a raffle drawing at the Sonoma orchid show almost a year ago...

Now - she made the mistake of leaving it outside and the poor thing has suffered very severe cold damage. She gave it to me to try and rescue. I'm feeling a little pessimistic about this one.. too bad because it was a stunning plant.

After reading up on some AOS articles they advise to keep the plant dry until new growth appears. She is getting browner and dryer every day... the roots still have some hair like fibers, but I have not taken her out of the pot completely for fear of disturbing her..

I've had some success with Phal. rescues in water culture lately, so I thought it might be interesting to try..

Any thoughts, tricks, or other advice?

Sorry, it looks pretty much gone. Putting it in a zip-lock bag with some moist (not wet) sphagnum and keeping it a warm spot might help if the roots are still alive. Sadly, I think it is already dead.

Even if the roots are still good and there's a latent growth still alive it would be years until it was big enough to bloom again. And it looks too far gone to even bother.
