Being a newbie, I would pick a hybrid. They seem easier to grow and more forgiving.

I think i have advanced a but last beginner maybe intermediate. I have quite a few paphs and phrags now.
i am going to buy Paph Franz Glanz and Phrag popowii and i think i am going to take the esquirolei

Paph sukhakulii easier to grow and bloom and has attractive foliage, but to my mind Paph esquirolei is much more intriguing. Good choice.

Yes go for a sukhakulii they love warmth and humidity and are one of the easiest paphs.
