Paph Black Diamond
Howdy
This is my first blooming of seedling of Paph Black Diamond, a seedling of fairrianum alba, and delanti alba on only one fan. Expecting better size, on subsequent bloomings. Purchased thru Al's Orchid Greenhouse.
As remarked in someone else's thread, the chromosomes don't quite line up sometimes between different sections of Paphiopedilum.
So I have this purple blushed creamy white blossom.
Enjoy!
Rex

Well perhaps not the best looking, but I will never knock getting one to bloom. It is still quiet cute with it's soft nice coloring, way to go. And hears to the next one being a bit better shaped.

There are two problems with alba breeding in Paphiopedilum:
a. Some plants are albescent, and not true alba. These usually produce colored off-spring.
b. The alba mutation is not the same in each section of Paphiopedilum. In some cases, they are not the same within the section (in niveum & bellatulum the mutation is on different genes, so niveum album & bellatulum album produced colored Vanda M Pearman).
If you self it (or sib cross it), you will get a small percentage of whites in the next generation.

This is a nice cross and one that I have on my "to acquire" list. Right now I'm waiting for my Jade Dragon to bloom (another of my favorite Paph. fairrieanum crosses).
