I agree that you shouldn't stake unless you intend to show the plant or if the inflorescence is very long (or heavy) or needs staking for transport. Remember, there are no stakes in nature, so whatever you do, the staking should be as unobtrusive as possible and should be done early - that is, as the inflorescence is maturing so that the flowers are arranged (and open in a natural orientation) on the inflorescence.

If you are ever in New England / New York areas and have the opportunity to see them, Nick Mancieri of A&P Orchids and Glen Decker of Piping Rock Orchids are masters in the 'art of staking', especially paphs.

Thank you everyone for your input. The vote for no staking has carried the day so I shall leave it alone. Can you tell I'm excited about this one blooming? I can't wait for spring to get here so I can order more slippers! I'm already moving things around on the shelves to make more room.
