Paph Black Diamond
I am very fond of fairrieanum hybrids. I was looking for this one (delenatii x fairrieanum) for years, but it kept eluding me.
I finally found it about two years ago, when Piping Rock brought a few to the Parkside Orchid Fest. The first bloom a year later was a bit irregular. It was actually so poor, that I did not bother to take a photo.
It is now blooming for the second time, and the flower is much better, so here are a couple of photos.

I can see why you like them. So delicate and pink. Was expecting something super dark re: Black Diamond.

That is beautiful!
I too want to have this hybrid. I once had a chance, but the plant was a lot bigger than I expected, so I passed.
By the way, I wonder why it is called Black Diamond when it is brightly colored?

Who knows why people select the names they do?
Some are contractions of both parents names. Or, they the plant for someone, either passed or living. Neither is the case here.
Some have a desire to name a plant something specific, for reasons entirely unknown to the rest of us. It could be a passage in a book or movie that led them to their choice.
Some have a fanciful leap of the imagination, entirely beyond what anyone else can comprehend.
Either of the last two could be the case here. I can't figure it out.

Hi Fairorchids
Do you have the parents on your tag? I received one last autumn from Al's Orchid Greenhouse, near Wash DC, and it is labled as fairrieanum alba X delanti alba. It is in high bud, and I will know how colored mine will be in a couple of weeks. The plant has purple pigment along the center of the plant, and in the bud. I suppose the genes don't segregate the same, and are going to be colored to some degree or another.
Genetics can be fun.
Your plant is a beauty. Thanks for sharing. Hope mine is as nice!
Take care
Rex
