Why won't the top petal open on this paph? Is it weird, or am I impatient?
Hey everyone!
So, I got a Paph supersuk eureka x paph raisin pie hsinying from Trader Joe's a few weeks ago. I took at timelapse of it blooming, and boy is it cool looking! I know these are pretty varied in their looks as they're all grown from seed, so I wanted to share my particular one!
However...
This orchid looks weird in how it's blooming! I have watched several time lapse videos, and even paphs with really big "hats" have the "hats" open and wrapped around the bud from the start, so what's up with mine?
After watching the video, do you think mine is blooming strangely, or do you think I should just give it another week or two to fully open?
Thanks!
i would give it another week. but if it doesn't then i would wait for the next bloom period and see what happens. if not then it's just the plant itself since its from seed
Lots of paphs dont open the top sepal completely.
they want to keep rain out of the pouch, so the flower droops over and the top sepal usually doesnt open fully

I've seen many that stay bent downward, and that makes sense to me.
What I am talking about is that when you watch the video, you see that the dorsal sepal is folded in on itself and I've never seen that before in a paph. It's kind of swirly and weird looking. I guess when another week or two pass, I'll see if this is a truly weird paph or not, haha!!
