It's still opening, though I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it's not going to open all the way this time, or that maybe this particular clone has cupped flowers. Either way, it took months to develop the spike and bud, so it wouldn't shock me one bit if it took a month or more to fully open.
I'm certainly hopeful I can be successful with this malipoense.

Paphiopedilum malipoense is not difficult to grow, actually easy as most paphs are.
The main thing is that many people blast the buds due to warmer than ideal temperature during the winter into spring.
In the wild, this plant will spike in the fall and then sit low during the cold winter (not freezing but very cold actually coming from high mountain area in Southern China) and then finally bloom in the spring.
In the cultivation, the daytime temperature in the greenhouse or home may go up too much for them, which cause uneven development of the spike often end up with the blasting of the buds.
Not enough watering is another cause.
Otherwise, they are beautiful as foliage plant alone, at least to my eyes.
So when you grow this plant, you want to place it where the winter temperature consistently stays under 65-60 fore best results during the day time. Night time can go quite low, just don't freeze it to death. lol
Good luck!

Well I will have to give this a think then My living room where I was going to put it gets into the 60's at night, colder if it is really cold outside. But it will get into the lower 80's if the sun is really shinning. It is 72 right now and the temp is 42 outside. A bit to warm for this time of year. If I'm home I will open up the sliding glass doors if it gets to warm as I don't like it much over 70 in the house.
I may have to keep it in the dinning room as the sun doesn't shine in it like in all the windows in the living room.
I can't wait for my orchids to come in they should be here Thursday or Friday.
Mr.Happy I do hope it will open up all the way.

Well, that is not good then because of high irregularities as I mentioned.
It's the consistency, not necessarily the lowest possible temperature, although with cooler temp, the success rate will be a lot higher.
Then again, you might end up with some weird one that will bloom no matter what.

I know, right? Imagine bud blasting on you after all that waiting. Oh, my,,,I don't know what I would do to a plant, then. hahaha
My baby paph. malipo is already driving me nuts, but it was a freebie, so I'm just having fun with it.

Thats why i think you gotta have a lot of plants to divert your attention to! Once you see the spike, forget all about it except for watering time.

I'll have to post more photos of this flower. It really hasn't opened up much more, but I've seen this before, and there's a chance that once the plant is more mature, future flowers will open up a little more.
I noticed today that it's finally starting to develop a bit of the characteristic fragrance. I didn't realize it took weeks before that kicked in.
