Such a classy bloom...so Downton Abbey-ish! I bought a small plant 2/2014 and was told that can bloom on a young plant so hoping that in another month I see results. But was is your culture please? Can you post pix of entire plant and don't stop bragging!

The flower measures 2.5" x 2.5" and the spike is around
8". and the leaf span is almost 11". I have to thank Gary(UK) for a lot of the cultural advise. This plant is in a 8cm clear pot with 3 half inch holes cut at different heights on the pot which helps the medium to dry out more quickly. The medium is 12mm-18mm orchiata with no additives and in this cold weather gets watered every 10 days. I use Akernes Rain Mix and supplement this with a feed of Epsom salts every 2 months (exc. Akernes) The temp rises to around 20c in the heated greenhouse during the day and drops to around 12c at night. Quite a lot of air movement during the day but very little during the nights except in the summer months. I keep in moderate light but shade heavily when the bud begins to open --- which is supposed to induce a richer colour. Not my intention to be bragging--- but I may do if I can reflower it!!!!

My favorite species, and a very good one. If you decide to self it, I would buy a flask or two.

I have never heard of using Epsom salts with orchids. What is the theory and how much is used?
