paphiopedilum
Hallo all. I just got a new paph that is not in bloom. The tag only said, ' paph maudiae (colossum x lawrenceanu). I know that maudiae is green, but when I got home and google it I found fotos of green ones and red ones I would like to know which one I have the green or red? There is also another one on my wish list which the seller did not want to sell to me because it has mealybugs. She said they would try and remove it and when we come back I should go back and if it is removed I can buy it. I really wanted it, it is in bud. Paph Pinocchio.
I also have a paph leeanum which has a new growth but has not grown larger than 4 cm in 3 months. Do they just naturally grow slow.

green and white is wut you got there even though the parents are not... you see Maudie hybrids with vini colors but yours is the classic 1900 primary hybrid..that plants been around for over 115 years now.
Maudiae 'coloratum' is the red or 'vini' colored with green and whites.

Maudiae - callosum x lawrenceanum.
Leeanum is supposed to grow like weeds.
Maybe yours is just a slow one, or the condition is not ideal? maybe it's the season. Many paphs will stop growing during the hot summer. I find my paphs, any paphs I have, grow the fastest during spring and fall.

I don't notice any difference in growth rate during the year, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. They do seem more prone to produce new roots during fall, winter, and spring though. Maybe that's just mine...

Well, my apartment gets hot as hell during the summer and I rarely use AC.
I'm sure any living organism will suffer. lol
Phals and dendrobiums seem to be the only exceptions. They love it!
Oh, yes, mine also grow during the winter as well, but not all of them.

Aah, I think you've figured out why they don't grow that much during summer already.
I've recently figured out (with help, wouldn't have realized on my own although it's very obvious) why my Phals never grow particularly large (they always shrink when I've had them for a while), while apparently my two Phrags love it. I'm growing my plants in intermediate temperatures... I thought I had warm temperatures.
So, it seems all my Paphs grow during the year as long as I provide enough light/shade for them. My Phals on the other hand, mostly sulk during winter no matter how much light they get, although some of them flower instead.

Good thing your seller had integrity, mealy bugs are a totally a pain in the rear to get rid of. I applaud them for not selling it to you even though you wanted it. Letting them deal with the problem and buying it later was a much smarter choice.

Indeed, I agree you're much better off with the non-mealy plant, especially if you have many more plants at home.
I've definitely seen variation in how fast or slow my Paphs grow. I've watched a couple sprout a new fan rather quickly then take their sweet, sweet time growing it to maturity. In my case I believe I haven't kept on top of watering it frequently enough. But then I've heard a lot of others talk about some plants taking FOREVER.
Hope it all pans out!

Mine put up two new fans after flowering in spring, but seems growth has stopped now in winter. Hopefully it will pick up again in spring
