Default too much heat!

i left the house for at least two hrs to watch the world cup. i was in the process of repotting some orchids in an area that i thought was shaded. i didn't leave any without soil just in their platic pots and the heat hit them! just mad just really mad hoping they can pull through. i've been upset for a couple of days. trying to get over it.

I know the feeling geogeo! I have been growing Phalaenopsis seedlings for a year. I temporarily placed them on a deck chair to give them summer breezes but the sun moved and these two seedlings got burned. I was hoping these two seedlings would become nice specimen. But that will take several years now. Thankfully the other seedlings look fine.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

I expect many of us have done it. I just moved a Cattley to the window ledge. It has been in the greenhouse all along so I didn't think there would be such a difference on the ledge. But a small leave got a big burn spot on it. And the reason I moved it was that I had it under a T5 light and the newest mature leaf was getting too tall and got a big burn from the T5 bulb Otherwise it had been a spotless plant with a promising first bloom. I thought it might be show worthy next time it bloomed.

trying to take pictures of what i have that got baked and upload them. my paph. micranthum got baked really bad. all growth is brown except where the leaf base is. some ok roots so even if the main growth is dead i'm hoping for some side shoots to appear. my lycatse, all the roots shot. i trimmed them all off hoping that the new growths that are there will push out new roots. lost my paph helenae.

I have been growing orchids for a year now and I burned a Cattaleya. I soak my orchids for 10 minutes once a week. I had them on the lawn under a tree. After soaking I had them draining and went to do some other gardening. Of course the shade moved and when I went to take them in the Cattaleya was in the sun and one leaf was brown. I couldn't believe it could happen so fast. Thank goodness I read these boards so I knew right away what happened. I am much more careful now.

i live out in the seattle area, and it's been an oddly hot summer(i love it since i'm orig from philly) without a lot of humidity even thought the puget sound is right down the street. the hot summer has been great to my veggie garden though. i grow cool growing orchids that can take our maritime climate. like masdies, lycatses, miltonias, and cool growing paphs. catts don't do to well here. i did recently get one and hope that this summer will help it grow! otherwise i'm just going to ship it to my m-in-law in PR.

Hi geogeo21

What your photos show is not too much heat, but too much light (sunburn). Either way, I hope your plants can recover.
