My paphs have all finished blooming and I have snipped off the spikes. How long should I wait before I start feeding again? Some are starting to show some new growth, should I start feeding them now??
One more question if I may? What's your opinion of putting my paphs outside on the patio for the summer, they would be on the north side of the house. Temps in the day 90s, a few days of 100+, night time 60s-70s.
It's too hot and dry here to put them outside for the summer even if it is shaded. Some do like warmer temps. I know some of the multi florals do. But still 90-100 with <40% RH will not make them happy.
Ok thanks. Makes sense, wanted to check. Its to hot and dry here in summer for me too )...I am headed back up to Alaska for a month in August to get away from it...I call myself a sunbird )
What kind of paphs do you grow?
The temperature range you mentioned seems a bit too high although with such cool off at night, most should be fine.
Especially many paphs in the parvisepalum section come from area where it is very hot in the summer and quite chilly in the winter.
I grow mixed collections of hybrids and species of all sections of paphiopedilum indoor where summer temperature during the day are usually in the 90-100 and night rarely drops below 74.
Some continue to grow but many stop growing during this time. It is only about two months or so.
Think I have decided to leave my paphs inside. If we are gone a couple days it will be more likely they get to dry outside as opposed to inside in our sun room.
