This could be the cause. One of my NoID vini Paphs got rather dehydrated this year and the bud looked like it was going to blast most of the time it was growing, really dried up looking and the flower that finally opened was not as good shape. I think mine was an extreme, but perhaps something similar has affected these.

I know that when my culture is not ideal it shows in the flowers. This winter I let my Paphs get too dry between waterings. As a result my Ho Chi Minh has a wonky dorsal and isn't nearly as big as it was last year. My sukhakulii has a slightly deformed pouch. When I correct my culture then the flowers should get back to normal.

That seems like a lot of $$ for vinis. Maybe they factored in traveling expenses. I know I only paid $45 for a blooming OZ fairrie a year ago, but I live on the same coast as OZ so it didn't have far to go.
That could be the case, but I was told the price is higher for the ones that are of special breeding line and of certain size and shape, which did not necessarily match my beauty standard.
I found all the nearly perfectly round complex (the most expensive due to their round shape) were the ugliest things I had ever seen.

I remember there was a maudiae type hybrid with rather a large flower and alright color (kid of like dirty macabre color), and it was actually pretty, but after seeing that it was over $500, I lost my appetite. lol

They did bring a few fairrie and there were all of different price, but ok, one was around $50.
They must have been over stock or too common. I don't know.

Well, there are so many plants to try and you have to be selective otherwise, you will end up not having enough space or keep having ugly ones while missing out on much better ones out there!

Don't feel bad.
