Default chamberlainianum

One of my favorite plants. It's now on the 9th flower on the spike, and 10 and 11 are developing. I have several different chamberlainianum plants - this one is the miniature version (well, that is what I call it!).

That is perfect!!!

I think I've seen some big ones.

I don't have that particular species, but I do have leimianum, which is about 15in across. a bit too big for me, but it is flowering for the first time and also initiated two new fans. As long as it doesn't go beyond 20in, I will keep it. lol

Do you find any big difference between large and smaller plants? say, flower size and stuff?

Yes, all of that. The larger plants are... about 3x the size. The flowers are larger, and nice, but I like this one the best. The spike is totally different - distance between bracts is like 5mm vs probably 30mm or so. At some point I will take more pictures and show them together.

I have six chamberlainianum plants, and four victoria-reginae. Some people think they are the same (synonyms) - I insist they are not, as the flowers don't look alike to me, and for many other reasons as well.

Stay tuned :-)

Tell that to the taxonomists! LOL Chamberlainianum has been victoria-regina since 1976.

I hear ya, but the two orchid growers I respect the most say otherwise! There is debate about which plant was originally described.

My take - in the orchid world, things are always changing, and at times going back and forth. It doesn't really matter to me. I enjoy them for what they are.

I suppose it should be noted that over time, there have been many, many disagreements on how ALL the Cochlopetalums relate to each other. I still love them for what they are - or are not! :-)

Sounds like the raging debate over Phal. speciosa C#1 vs Phal. tetraspis C#1. :P

I thought it was neat how closely the bracts are arranged as well.

My leimianum has it about 20mm spaced out. not too bad I guess. The first flower is gone for weeks now, but the second bud is about to pop open. and I see quite a few in store!

I personally cannot tell the difference between chamberlainianum and victore-reginae either, but what differences do you see?

By the way, even liemianum flowers look very similar to both named species depending on the clone and variety, but I read that the main different that sets the liemianum apart is the dark marking on the underside of the leaves.
Then again, even liemianum has a few different leaf types.

The whole thing about categorizing different species and even genus is quite crazy. lol

I would love to see more pictures coming from you.
