First Paph As Gift From Friend
Got this Paph as a gift from a friend who knows I'm into orchids. I have at least 100 orchids, but not a single Paph, at least until now. Guess I'll have to read up on their culture. Sure is pretty and this flower is at least 3 weeks old already.

Sorry, but I have to ask, how in the hell did you get "at least 100 orchids" but not a single Paphiopedilum? It's not like it's a rare group, they're among the most popular orchids...

Good question. And to tell the truth, I'm not sure how in the hell to answer you. I guess I tend to get stuck on a certain genus and collect them until another group lures me away, then I collect them until I go a whoring again. I guess I just haven't had the itch for Paphiopedilum.....yet. This could be the day!

You have great friends. Paphs are awesome. No doubt you'll start collecting them in no time.

I was just reading The Slipper Orchids by Catherine Cash and she has a line in there that says there are Cypriholics(those who love slippers) and cypriphobics( those who can't stand them). Sounds like you might be on the way to becoming a cypriholic.

Yall's banter is cracking me up lol
It's a really beautiful paph, congrats. I really think the slipper family along with the bulbophyllums contain some of natures greatest masterpieces.

I have at least 100 orchids and 2/3 of them are paphs, phrags, or cyps. Beautiful bloom by the way.

It's beautiful! I love them but I love the phrags even more. They bloom for such a long time! I do own one paph though.

Thanks for the compliment of the bloom! I think its beautiful as well and I'm glad to have the plant. I mostly grow outdoors only here in South Florida and I tend to choose orchids that can thrive in this environment. I could be dead wrong, but I don't feel that Phaps are that easy breezy to grow out in the tropical forest garden. Certainly I would be glad to hear about those that would do well here....it could turn into my next plant collecting obsession. Good luck with your phaps, phrags, and cyps !
