I have a few of these and they are so pretty!!!

By the way, was the first bloom "normal" or did it show any signs of "defect" at all?

The reason I'm asking is because I had one vini that never quite bloomed "normal". some blooms were better (or worse) than others, but always some kind of deformaties in shape.

Other than that particular one, most paphs bloomed the same way each time, and some bloomed with better or worse in quality but without the deformaties.

I think it could be the random thing, or unfortunately the issues lying deep in the genetic make up.

Oh, and another deformity I see in a couple of really dark vini I have is that the flowers will open with a very narrow white streak in the midst of very dark wine color.
I want to just cover up with a nail polish sometimes. lol
I don't know much about what type it is , but here is the name ...fowliei alba x hennisianum alba. The first bloom it had, was perfect. No abnormalitys at all. Thought I had a pic somewhere of the very first bloom, a couple years ago . I'll look in my archives

I'm 99.9% sure you won't get a vini color from 2 alba species parents.

Chidlove, I would send the vendor a picture and see if they can confirm what's on the label. Tags get mixed up all the time even with the best of vendors. If you bought it at an orchid show think about how many times tags get pulled by prospective buyers and accidentally put back in the wrong pot. It would be nice to know what it really is.

It's a very nice color, and the shape of the flower may improve with maturity.

Shoot....I bought this paph in 2011, and the vender is Paramount. They moved from Calgary shortly after the show , and I don't know if I'd be able to contact them

There was nothing wrong with its very first bloom I bought it as a seedling, and it flowered the next year

Default my Paphs second bloom

Looks like they are now in BC. I would send them an email with a picture of the bloom and a picture or the tag. Hopefully they can help you sort out what it really is.

Well.... they got back to me right quick, and they say to the best of thier knowledge, that , that is the cross. They went on to explain the alba, was probably way recessive, and my plant took after the original parents. [and that every seedling would be different.] so , I will enjoy my little fowlie/ henni, and maybe order more paphs from Paramount in the spring

Wow that was fast! I still wonder a bit since neither one of those species even with standard coloration are anywhere close to vini color. At any rate, it is a registered cross named Evelyne Schmidt. Enjoy her!

How very interesting!

I also have some hybrids that are results of two alba parents but some "colors" show up.
Yours is on the extreme side I guess, unless mixing up truly did happen as it does happen.
