Vini blooms and buds
One of the new blooms that opened this week is the cross of Wardii and vini maudiae type.
The petals and pouch are so dark that they almost appear black. The dorsal is wine colored.
One very interesting feature of this flower is that there is a "window" on each petal toward the center of the flower. It shows well in one picture where the flower has light coming in from its back.
The backside of the petals have a long streak of green area, and these green streak becomes transparent near the center creating the window.
I really like it!
The leaves of this plant is very pretty as well. It looks just like the leaves of Wardii, except the whole thing is very dark and the backside is as dark & glossy as the flower itself.
The next one is a cross of sukhakulii and dark maudiae type. I really like how the overall shape came out, like macabre, but not too fond of the ambiguous color.
oh, well...
then I have this charleswardii cross that looks really bright in color, but looks to be quite large for the type, so I'm excited about how it will open up to be.
I have a whole bunch more dark buds, but have hard time taking good pictures of them. They all look dark and very alike, but closer look shows they are indeed all different. I like that about them.
I include a few of the hybrids of fairrieanum and dark vini cross. Two of them look like they are going to be very dark. One of them has two buds on one spike.
