Paphiopedilum fairrieanum double flower
Hi there,
I have some Paphiopedilum fairrieanum imported some years ago from Asia.
This is the second year they blooms, and I have noted in a couple of plants that is forming a second flower.
The fairrieanum type carries only one flower, therefore the second flower isn't normal.....any explanation?
It's still a fairrieanum species, not a kind of hybrid?

Some paphs that usually only have one flower on a spike do sometimes carry more than one, especially as they get more healthy and vigorous.
Does fairrieanum definitely never do this, I don't know the answer to this.

Very similar to when I've seen this before. I don't believe it's any reason to doubt it's ID, but maybe other known more on that.

It's a fairrieanum and according to slipperorchids.info, it can get get a double flower, but it's not that usual (it's a great Paph site: slipperorchids.info).
Congrats on flowering this gorgeous species, and I'm only slightly jealous (okay, I'm very jealous, give it here!).

Paphiopedilum fairrieanum double flower
Looks like a very nice fairrie. It's not that uncommon for this species to put out a second bud.
