Paph issues...
Okay, I must be doing something wrong or maybe this is normal I am not sure. The paph's get bright filtered early morning to mid morning light. They are never allowed to get full sun, the humidity is not known but I have 4 of them in the window with a large pyrex dish of live sphagnum. They are not ever allowed to completely dry out, but they are dry enough to require soaking. They are all in net pots with better gro special mix, with some hydroton or packing peanuts to make sure that there is air in the bottom...I noticed on my paph godefroyea(sp?) has only one root left, and it is starting to shrivel up, it looks to have some new growth up close to the top of the plants leaves, it is also growing a new leaf...is this normal for these?
My paph emerald that I received the other day is doing the same thing, the base of the roots are starting to shrivel up and die...What am I doing wrong? So far my Winnie the Pooh xHoney paph is doing quite well as far as I can tell...It may be to soon to tell....

And when I say filtered it has to come through my large oak tree on the side of my house and then the roof hangs over the window giving it a little more shade....

Well, it's hard to say completely - I don't know the whole history and timeline and such, but perhaps it's just really in shock and hasn't recovered yet? New roots will take time to appear. Not just in days. And the old roots may expire due to the shock and getting moved around, pulled, etc. I have paph that was not in great shape with it's roots (at all) and I potted it down after soaking it in KLN, etc... It got knocked over recently and when it spilled I saw it lost it's main root - even though the top side of the plant looks like it's OK. So, I potted it back in, and now I think I just have to be really patient with it, and keep it moist, etc.
paph godefroyae has a reputation of being very difficult to grow, and slow when it does. That means it is going to take longer than others to recover. Disclaimer: Yes, I understand anything can happen 'outside the box'.

You already dug it up again? It sounds like you potted it just a month ago:
Paph Gode Froyea care
I don't think that this group of Paphs like to be distrubed too much (see the link to Dr. Tanaka I gave previously). I agree with Jermy, give the best condition you can, and leave it. Don't be surprised that if you don't see any new above ground growth for the next 6 months or even for a year.
P. gode easily lose roots. I keep it pretty dry (I let it dry out almost completely except when it's growing well, spring and fall). But it is probably the time of year when it starts to grow, so you can keep it a bit moister. Also, you should keep it pretty shaded. When there is not much root, plants want to minimize transpiration from leaves. So high air humidity and shady are than normal is required. If they do too much photosynthesis, the plant has to open the stomata, and moisture escapes. Also, I would use really really diluted fertilizer for now.

I have no really advices about this one, still waiting for mine to arrive. However I have never been good with Paphs, had 2 in the years and they did not really last long. Than I got Paphiopedilum as a gift. It was blooming and in sphagnum mix. After blooming, it just did not seem happy at all. I was thinking I am loosing another one, and switched to hydroton pebbles in the decorative pot with cuttings along the sides. There is lot of air and never standing water. Since than (2 months ago), each of 2 old growths has new leave now and there is pretty big new growth also, so I guess it really does like pebbles. I also fertilize with seaweed once a month and MegaCal once a month. I am not sure about the roots, since I can not see them, BUT i do not touch it and dig it, I thinks since it is looking pretty healthy and growing like this, the roots must be fine:-) Just some tips.

Okay put them in a back room in our house thats maybe a little smaller then average bedrooms now (old house) with a single west facing window set them on top of a dresser out of direct light from the window. Turned my 2 gallon cool mist humidifier on high as well as a ceiling fan. Should that be good?

Perhaps kept too wet and the roots died and rotted out? I'm not sure.
How does that one strand of root feel to touch? Firm?
By the way, paphs (I have parvi, maudiae types, complex, pretty much anything other than large multiflowering kind) can grow new leaves, fans, and even flowers all at the same time. Very normal and natural indeed.
I think I see two new roots pushing out? Those two short and white things near the base of the plant.
Are they?
