Do as you wish, I know this is a common belief, but almost all of the energy went into getting the flower to this point. Maintaining it for a while costs the plant next to nothing, and letting it die back naturally reclaims some nutrients. As long as the plant is healthy and you don't pollinate it anyway...
If the plant is so weak you don't want it to support the flower for a while then you never should have let it waste all those resources to bloom.
