A Bunch of Vinis in bud
I got myself 8 more budded paphs recently.
All in dark bud with beautiful leaves, some I find really beautiful.
Three of them are cross between "typical" vini maudiae and paph. Charleswarthii, and the rest are coloratum or vini maudiae cross. All are named
Given the look of some buds, I expect some beautiful flowers, but it could be an ugly surprised as I have in the past.
I am hoping at least one will be very nice.
well, my anticipation is growing.
For now, I am doing my best trying to be positive and just enjoy the beautiful dark buds and the leaves.
I have really hard time capturing the beautifully colored leaves of the darkest two plants. oh, well...

I have a Paph. Hsinying Rubyweb x Magic Leopard vini that has a very similar type of tag (JF743) - Curious if you have one of these?

One of mine says Paph. Hsinying Rubyweb 'PA 2096 #' x Paph. Magic Leopard '#1' (JF 1565).
This plant has the thickest spike and very dark. I am really looking forward to the day it finally opens up.
Leaves are particularly bright for a vini (almost silver with dark green markings) with some wine coloring on the underside.
How did yours look when in bloom?
All the yellow plastic tags says JF followed by some numbers. Do you know what that is for?
Also, the date below JF numbers...I guess it is a date when the plant got out of flask?
Almost all the paphs I bought over the years came with this yellow plastic tag.
Others came with white plastic tag without JF numbers but just names.

So, same plant, different batch ;-) My guy told me where they came from Japan (directly) and that was the coding system they used. Yes, on the date - different format than ours, because the other parts of the world do it different haha.
I haven't seen the flower on mine yet, but it's currently double-spiking, hence why I asked about yours! Yes, I am told this is a very, very dark flower. My leaves look similar. Let's keep each other posted!

Ok, I was wrong when I said the white plastic tag has no numbers or dates on other than names or identification of parents involved in the cross.
I just looked at them all, and the white tags seem to be coming from a few different places. All white tags has something similar to "JF 234" stuff, except they start with Z or X or P or some other alphabet followed by some numbers.
Then, some white tags show certain dates (again, I have no clue what these dates mean) while some do not. Fonts are different on some as well.
Now, all the yellow plastic tags are in the same format and font. They all must come from the same place I guess?? Japan you said?
I know paphs market is crazy huge in Japan.
My dream is one day to attend Japan paphiopedium show, like that big one held in Tokyo Dome I believe.
Yours is sending up two spikes? Mine is a single growth plant. I am so excited about all these dark buds but I hope I get at least one nice flower.
Yes, please post yours when they open up.
Mine is still in very low spike, so it has at least three weeks (or maybe longer) to go.

Here is a pic of mine. In low spike too. Kinda sitting there. I might move it to some lower light and see what it does.
Yes on the yellow tags - of course, this is only what I was told! My guy got lots of stuff from Japan. And also he told me when people come from there, they ALWAYS ask for Paph Bruno 'Model', since it's so rare in general, especially there. I'm not sure I could go to a show there. Unless I went in January or something, RIGHT after a really big holiday bonus! Otherwise, I would just have a massive debt.

First one opened
It is a cross between Hsinying Glory 'Big Ventral' and Charleswarthii 'Pisgah' HCC/AOS.
I love the dark color (the color is even more beautiful under certain light) and the glossy texture. I just wish the overall shape was more round and full.
and the dorsal opened flat but now it is twisting. Why can't it just stay flat!!!
Now I am still waiting on a bunch of other dark buds to open. One with fairrieanum (last two pictures) in it barely began to open.
The color is not as dark as I want, I find it fascinating to see paphiopedilum buds open up.
This one looks like a face with a hood on.
Two of the alba forms are full blown size and I expect one of them to be quite pretty (the first one in the picture). That particular one with lots of white makes me think of some kind of butterfly cocoon.
Very interesting even in bud. gotta love them.

I took a picture of the Charlesworthii hybrid again with the sun light coming in from the back and the color looks much better this way.
Enjoy~

Great flower! I'm starting to get concerned with mine. I got the plant from a place that wasn't paying much attention to their paph's and phrags. I knew what I was getting into. But my little spikes might have already blasted. We will see.
