I love that second flower! I have been looking for some nice dark fair maude.

My hsinying ruby & fairrieanum 'red swan' turned out lightly colored coloratum, and I gave it away last week.
I have yet another similar cross in bud, which is much darker and I am hoping and dreaming that it will open up looking like yours.

I also have hsinying cherryweb & Magic Leopard 'voodoo' in bud. very dark and pretty at the moment, but the leaves are something else! I would keep the plant just for the leaves no matter how the flower turns out.

All my vinis so far have "deformed" dorsal. They open up flat, but then in just a few days after opening, the dorsal almost always twists around, which I'm not really fond of very much.

I still have a bunch of dark buds to open, so hopefully I will have at least one "that's it!" vini for me.

By the way, your second paph, the one with the fairrieanum in it, how big is that plant?
I would love to get a division of it. I love the flower shape and color and gloss, everything!!!

I'm glad to know it is alive and developing!

Well, mine is growing really fast.
I think the spike looks almost stunted when very low, then once they hit certain height, they seem to grow at an accelerated rate.

Mine grew almost double in just one week!
I expect to see that one open probably by the end of September.

I'm sorry not to have replied earlier, but didn't see the email alerting me to a new post on this thread. Thanks for the compliment on the Fairrieanum hybrid. I am very pleased with the flower. The plant only has 2 growths so isn't big enough to divide yet but I'll keep you in mind as it grows. I hope you've gotten that "it" flower in your recent blooms.

That's ok.

Well, quite a few have opened and one or two interesting ones, but nothing really great yet.

I still have a bunch more that I'm waiting on.

Yeah, it would be great if I could get a piece of your fairrieanum vini hybrid one day.
Thank you!

Oooh, so many pretty vinicolors.

I love vinicolor Paphies, but I only have two of my own, and I think one of these (of course the ID:d one) is about to kick the bucket.

And I must also add how darn jealous I am of you for having so many Paphs in bud. I have over 50 of them, but only 1 in bud. That's unfair I tell you! I'll show mine this thread, so they start behaving as they should.

Btw, I agree about that fairrieanum vini hybrid! Absolutely stunning!

!
Maybe you need 50 more - with some that are more likely to be summer/fall bloomers?

Have you bought all as seedling??
All these were bought in low bud.
Yeah, I am now turned on for vinicolor paphs.
I may have many in bud, but when they open, almost all are disappointment to me.
One that just opened the other day looks nice but it is still in the process of opening up.

Speaking of fairrieanum vini, one of the two very dark ones of mine began to open and it looks very promising!!!

Haha! Yeah, that could be an idea. Problem is I would run out of space...

Yeah, I mostly have seedlings and they're almost all species too, so it's not so strange I don't have that many in bud (plus I'm still pretty new when it comes to Paphs). But I'm still jealous.

About those dorsals, I think it's very hard to find a Paph that keeps its dorsal flat throughout the blooming, so unless you use an iron to make it flat, you'll have to keep looking I guess. My big vini (my only NoID) has a serious twisted dorsal, but I like it anyway.

Oooh, keep us posted about the fairy!

Yeah, many open up nice and flat, then over the course of just a few days, some of them curl back or twist around.

One of the Charlesworthii cross, which by the way came out looking just like Charlesworthii, has its dorsal flat, just like Charlesworthii do.
not too fond of the timid color though. lol
Gosh, I sound really picky. hahaha
