Paphiopedilum Armeni White
Default Paphiopedilum Armeni White

a cross of Delenatii and Armeniacum.
This plant has been a very free flowering although I did break the last spike.
I have been very careful this time and so far so good!

The spike has two buds this time and the spike is growing quite tall compared to three inches long last fall. I was really hoping that my plant wasn't a shorty and afterall it is not! yay!

The first picture was taken around the first week of this month.

I keep thinking about it. especially the other day when the spike was half way bent down. I was freaking out, yet didn't do anything. it "fixed" itself up overnight I guess.
The fast growth rate causes this rather than the weight of its own.
but regardless, just to be on the safe side, I should probably stake it now. thanks for reminding me.

The only paphs I stake for support are the large flowering complex types since they get so heavy.
All my others, mostly maudiae types, seem to stand straight up strong on their own. I still stake them so I don't break them off when I move them around for watering and such.

I usually stake in mid morning when the spike is warmer and pliable.

Good idea! Thing is I am afraid of a stake possibly puncture through any root damaging it.
I'm out of those super thin metal stake at the moment. I will instead go out and buy rather thick bamboo or wooden stake tomorrow morning.
I wll try and tape the stake along the pot so I don't have to worry.

Nice! I look forward to seeing yours bloom, this one is on my list but it'll probably be a while before I get one.

Every year? every quarter! lol
This is the third time spiking since September 2012.

Thanks, all!

I like the cream yellow of the flower when first open. but then it quickly loses the color and turn completely snow white. I prefer the yellowish tone, which only last for a couple of days. well, well,,,

Default Finally Staked and Open!

Well, not all the way yet.
It just opened up this morning.

I like the yellowish green color at this stage and wish the color was like this all the time, but in a matter of just a few days, it will be all washed out to pure white.
I like it white too, but prefer this color much more, whch is why I am thinking of getting Paph. Norito Hasegawa or something similar.

Anyways, I am happy that the spike is well above the leaves, not like last time when the spike was barely above the leaves or slightly lower even. I thought it was really strange and I was really hoping that would not be the case every time this plant bloomed.

The flower seems smaller this time but that could be because there are two buds this time.

The flower looks rather funny as if it was pulled and stretched out vertically, but as the petals open up more, the overall shape should be more or less round.

I wonder if it will be fragrant this time. at least my wish.
