So I purchased a Lowii at our show, it won a first prize ribbon and is really a nice seedling. The vendor said I should get some alba seedlings if I eventually did breed with it. He sounded in awe of "alba" - I had never seen the alba cultivar until I looked it up. All I know for sure its costly, but I need to see the flower in person because at the moment I think the original is far better.
I thought what the heck - and cross-pollinated the blooms on Feb 21st. I have never done paphs, so it was good to try.....but it was a palaver in that I had to mangle the one flower to rub the pollinia on the stamen. On the other, I thought I would just leave the pouch and try. It looks like both "took", we will see in about 120 days.
BTW - the pollinia reminded me of earwax !

Cool! That "ear wax like" pollen is called sectile pollinia if I remember correctly. There is also granular pollinia.

I'm jealous. I have a spicerianum I self pollinated and it looks like it's not taken.

Did you self polinate it? If you crossed it to something else then it will only produce albas if the other plant is carrying the same alba gene.
