Default Thinking of getting my first Paph.

Hi all, I saw a few Paphs at home depot today! Can't remember there names but the plants looked real healthy with buds/flowers for 25.00. I have no idea how to take care of these. Do they grow well in my location? Are they easy or hard to grow. Thanks for any info.

Be careful...they're sneaky!
after you bring the first one home, more follow!!!

With the sun down here, just be careful about placement...more shade than a lot of us can provide here.

Let us know if you get it

I have 4 phrag hybrids and they came in s/h. I flush them out with distilled water every other day and fertlize with 1/4 strength. I keep them shaded along side my phals. Be careful of bacterial rot at the base of the leaves, as I found too much sun can cause it. I have read they thrive in temps of 70s - 80s during the day and high 50s - low 60s at night. Humidity 50%-70%. Some phrags, like caudatum, can go as low as 35%.

Thanks Sue and D, Temp. sound good , I think I will get one . Now that I checked my list of orchids I bought a Phap. Sanderianum "Newberry". a couple of years from blooming duh. I have been growing it the same as the others but I think I need to put it in a shadier spot. I will post a picture of it when I can. thanks

Paphs are great plants, beautiful and in general easy to care for. If you can keep a sanderianum seedling alive you shouldn't have too much trouble with any others. The above comments are good; however although Dorothy is absolutely right about Phrags don't get them confused with Paphs!

Aren't those paphs?
Here is a great Paph Pictorial resource that I have stored in my favorites - Orchid Photo Galleries - Paphiopedilum / Paph species and Hybrids.

and here is one for Phrags - Orchid Photo Galleries - Phragmipedium / Phrag. species and Hybrids.

Ah yes you have a Maudiae hybrid crossed with an easy species. This will do great with Phals.
