Looks like it will be nice, Jim. You should start your own thread for comments if you have not done that yet.

I thought you MK people might be interested in knowing that the Grand Champion of the 19th WOC was an MK from Krull-Smith. I took a photo and have placed it in my gallery. He had lots of MKs there . I would have taken a flower count, 'cause it was high, but I was in danger of being trampled. I didn't have a ruler to measure the petal length either, but I would imagine all the data can be found elsewhere. Krull Smith also won best species paph with one of their FCC roths.

A note with crosses with phillipinense, the lower sepals grow till they touch something. Once they come in contact with something(thinking they hit the ground) they stop enlongating. They grow very long to enable their natural polinators(ants I believe) to travel from the ground directly to the flower. I have seen many people stake these up offset to the plant so they have a clear path to keep growing, and usually in a tall pot or on a stand to get the full extent of the flower.

I thought that too, but believe it to be an urban myth now. I was extremely careful to not let the tips of the sepals to touch more than incidentally during the growing part. Of their own accord they stopped at 10.5 inches, which is average of just below average for what I have seen posted for this cross.

It still looks like a fairly young plant and should elongate more as the plant matures more.

Thats a very special plant. It's beautiful.

My KM first bloom grew to 14 inches. That was a year ago. I'm looking, looking, looking, for another sign of a bud again.
