Is it ok if i check the roots?? Female
Default Is it ok if i check the roots??

i have a pathiopedilum bellatulum sorry for spelling it wrong if i did.. I've had it for about 3 weeks since it came with bare roots i potted it in fine bark mixed with perlite and oyster shells, I've watered it twice already but the plant doesnt seem to do much thats what i'm worried about... I've potted it in a brown pot so i cant see the roots. I noticed that one new growth (was already there when plant came) has a brown leaf tip but its very tiny...I'm just very tempted to see the roots if they are doing ok. I've read that bellatulums dont like repotting and they get stressed out about having their roots bare maybe its in shock? hmm its just there is no sign if its doing ok...im worried

Thanks for any advice )

If the roots were good when you potted it, I would leave it alone. Some orchids don't like to be disturbed. Are the leaves wilting or something other than that one brown leaf that you are concerned? Most Paphs don't like to dry out as much as some other types of orchids, but you don't want it to be in soggy wet conditions either. It may just need time to settle in. They are also medium to low light plants and real bright sun could stress it.

You will not see visible growth within a couple of weeks! Paphs are pretty slow growers compared to some orchids. Good luck with it!

Moonsful, I agree with silken, you probably won't see much growths in a couple weeks. Some of mine start to show growth after a couple months.

Did you say that you have watered twice in the last 3 weeks? That sounds pretty extreme. Either you have a mix which is too water retentive, or your are under-watering. If it is the former, it will likely to die, P. bellatulum isn't the easiest Paph for me.
