Default Paph. Hiloglory x Paph. Charlesworthii "thanksgiving" should I get it?

Hi everyone

I was at the local Meijer store, looking at their usual assortment of phals and mini phals, with the occasional other orchid. But yesterday they had something spectacular, a Paph. Hiloglory x Paph. Charlesworthii "thanksgiving" for $27!

It looked alright and was in bloom. I didn't lift it out of the pot to check for root rot or anything though. It had a pup on the side. Leafs looked fine for the most part, long and speckled.

Would you all get it if you have never had terrestrial orchids before? It was beautiful and I really want it.

I have the money for it, but I was wanting to get more air plants. Maybe I will check around online and compare prices.

I'd get it. Since Paphs are mostly seed grown you might not see another one quite the same. It's got a full tag so it's not a noid.

I think I will get it when we get the extra money to, as long as it doesn't have root rot really bad or anything. It was a beautiful orchid, it's flower was huge for the size of the plant!

I read some care sheets a couple minutes ago, it seems like an easy to please orchid, put it in a lighter medium and let it slightly dry out in between waterings.

I use perlite, coconut coir, and organic potting soil mixed up for all my plants except epiphyte orchids. I use bark for them. Would the first mix work for this orchid or do I need something different? I was thinking that maybe that the perlite coconut mix would smother it too much, so I was thinning of mixing the bar with something. What would be the best? I am looking it up at this time also.

After reading up on it and reading a few threads I was thinking of using the epiphyte bark, along with some coconut coir and perlite. Along with a little bit of organic potting soil. So maybe it would hold a little more moisture than just bark.

Do the roots need light like phials and epiphytes do?
