Paph malipoense, 2 buds common?

My Paph malipoense is growing 2 buds. Is this common? Does this increase it's chances of being award-able?

I don't have a malipoense but even though there are two buds, that doesn't necessarily mean that two flowers will be open at the same time. Often the second bud won't bloom until after the first flower fades. My Paph. Pinocchio occasionally does have two flowers open at one time. I do think it would increase the chances of being awarded but I don't know for sure and there are many other qualities that the judges would consider. I love it when mine have two flowers open. Thanks for the reply. I know the buds may not open at the same time. In fact, one is bigger then the other so I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. I'm really just curious how often this happens? A google search showed a few but not many with 2 buds.

It doesn't happen very often. Here's a picture of my Paph. Pinocchio with two flowers and a third bud.

Paph malipoense usually has just one flower, but 2 isn't super rare. Almost all Paphs that are 'normally' single-flowered can sometimes have 2 or more. The frequency can be quite different between different species and hybrids.

It can affect the awardability, but not always in a good way. More flowers can be good, but not if it makes the flowers smaller or less well presented because they are crowded. It looks to me like your plant will probably have both open together at least for a while, and I think you will find the the second one is smaller and may be held at a less attractive angle.

Paph Pinocchio is a very different kind of Paph, capable of getting several to many flowers sequentially. Often there is only one open at a time, with another bud or 2 showng, but it can have 2 open at once much more often than Paph malipoense.

Some paphs, like Pinocchio are sequential and sequentially open flowers along a growing spike.

Others like this grow a spike with either one or two buds at the top. If there are two then usually the second forms upside down compared the the first, then turns before opening.

Still others only form one bud on the spike.

I don't have this one, and I'm not sure which category it fits into. I've often had second buds open with not problems, though once or twice the second bud has blasted.

Its pretty common for malipoense, not as frequently as.... delenatii or vietnamense....but more often than remaining parvis..
