A few paphs in bud/bloom

Love the pictures, thanks for sharing them. I have a Paph. Magical Venus in bud/spike now. The spike is about 1 to 2 inches tall. Last year the bloom quality was poor so hopefully this year it will bloom better. I also have a Paph. delenatii that is maturing a growth and should bloom around March. I have a Paph. sanderianum that will either bloom this year or next year.

Of all my paphs, Yosemite Moon&Fairrieanum cross is the slowest. I just wasn't sure if it was growing or dead.
It eventually bloom past Christmas and early January this year.

I have one maudiae alba that is showing low sheath in the first two pictures below.
Its leaves are larger than last years. All looked good and it's about time it made a spike. I didn't see anything all summer. Finally, at the end of summer, I saw something poking out of the center of the growth. I immediately thought it was a spike. As it grew more and more, it looked more and more like a leaf. what a disappointment.
but then just recently, that small new leaf popped open and there was a sheath inside. yay!

These paphs are crazy. They would make spike with or without spike. sometimes like this one, it makes an extra small leaf before sending up a spike.

In the third picture, one of the white complex paph showing second sheath developing. It will take a while before I see the flower for sure! time to forget about it for a while for the sake of my mental health I think

No pictures here yet, but I have three others that are in low sheath. Again, I will try and forget about them for a while.

The last picture is P. Hsinying Delight with all three flowers open and mature. I LOVE this plant! The first two opened facing the same direction on the same day.
I tried hard to get the third bud to orient the same direction as the other two, but well, it had its own preference.

Yeah, I think it's their hobby to drive their owners insane... Some of them at least.

I have some Paphs that are doing exactly that, some spiking and some putting out a tiny leaf before spikning, but the most frustrating Paph I have is probably my hainanense... I don't think they are supposed to particularly slow, but mine give the roths a run for their money. It's the type of Paph where you can only see its progress if you take a picture of it every few months, and THIS guy is spiking now. Let's see if it'll bloom till summer!

And here's my venustum that did exactly like your Maudiae alba and put out a tiny leaf before the spike emerged:

Oh, I love Magical Venus! I hope the flower quality will be better this time.

Mutant- I had three paphs (all of different cross) that had what looked like full blown buds that were ready to open any minute.
Well, it stayed in that phase for at least two weeks before opening.

I think the next phase for your wadii would be something like this...

Keep 'em coming! Love those paph pics! I don't care if they do drive their owners crazy! I've lived there for years!

Yup, and then the flower died...

I hope I'll be able to see it bloom next year, if it doesn't or the bud blasts again, I think it's quite safe to say that I don't have a hand with wardii.

I might have to try a Paph. wardii. My Paph. Magical Venus is starting to open its flower on a short spike. You can see the venustum parent in the pouch not so much in the front but in the back. The front part of the pouch is burgundy and has light "veins" but the back of the pouch is the same pattern as a venustum pouch. It's kind of neat.

sorry to hear that. I've had a bud blast on a paph once, but it was a developing bud. I'm surprised that yours was on the way to opening up and then blasted.

I thought wardii was supposed to be an easy one to grow and flower.

I hope yours behave better next season.

That is odd. I've only seen venustum from the front in pictures. Do they have vein markings on the back of the pouch as well?

I not sure if venustum has vein markings on the back of the pouch but I'm pretty sure they do. The back half of the pouch on the P. Magical Venus is like the front part of its venustum parent but the front half of the pouch is like the pouch of its other parent P. Macabre Magic. I'll get a picture up soon.
