Hello,
This forum has helped me a lot with growing my two Phalaeonopsis that I got from IKEA. I re-potted them right away after getting rid of bad roots. I haven't had any bud blasts since, they bloom beautifully
Anyway, I am so excited of having my first Paphiopedilum today from the orchid nursery. Is there anything I should be aware of for taking care of Paphiopedilum?. I want to see this beauty grow happily
I tried to attach pictures but failed. I'm not sure how to do it right
Cool! I have a few Paphs, grow fine, but only had one bloom so far, so not the best person to offer advice, other than do not allow them to dry out. Media should remain evenly moist, but not soggy. And I believe that other than growing s/h or other inorganic media, repot annually. I'm sure others will have more advice/tips for you.
Yeah! well done. I love paphs I have seven at the moment but I have just bid on another three on eBay so who knows how many I'll have by next week?! They are ever so addictive so beware. Most collections start off with just one or two and then the next time you look you have seventy! lol.
First purchase eh? Looks very healthy. It's only a matter of time before you start buying more. I think most of us here on OB try a new plant, get excited with it..and before long... the buying begins. Good luck
Very nice first buy (although I've no idea what the flower might look like so please do post a picture or two when it has opened).
I can only agree with previous comments, Paphs are highly addictive so beware! I started with one Paph approximately two months ago and now I have 20...
Good choice on the Paph! This Maudiae-type will be happy with the same light and temps as your Phals. Be careful with watering, always moist, never soggy. Plan on re-potting as soon as the flower is gone, and at least once a year after that. Paphs like fresh potting mix, and letting it get old or soggy is the fastest way to kill them.
Try to hold off on buying another at least until this flower is open. Enjoy!
