Finally a new fan on the way!!!
This paph(paph. Hilo Ruby 'Double Diamond" X paph. Hsinying Glory '#2') finished flowering around January and has been very quiet while all my other paphs make new fans right after flowers are gone or seem to make new fans all the time.
I would have normally tossed such plant out, but I really liked the dark bloom so I kept it all this time.
and just yesterday I found a tiny little new growth emerging from the root (or so it looks instead of in between leaves)

Wow, took me a second to see it. Some of my paphs grow fast, some slow. Glad you found something.
The dark vino colored bloom is beautiful!

This is the closest I could get, but if you look very closely under the bottom leaf on the right, there is a tiny little green thing emerging from the media.
bad picture
or a bad description. maybe a beginning of a new fan is probably more correct.

Ooohhh, now I see it! The little green smudge, lol. Dorothy (a mod here, now deceased) had coined the term 'nubbin' for any not quite identifiable growth (spikes, fans, keikis, growths....). So you have a fan nubbin!

haha, I like that term.
The nubbin is growing fast. It is bigger than yesterday already, which is very fast given how most paphs grow super slowly!
Most of my paphs grow fans on the side in between the leaves. Even when very small, they really do look like fans.
Other paphs grow these little nubbin by its root or at the very base of the plant (it seems) that swell up over time, then one day little leaf pop out of it.
Then there are some paphs that do both!

Gorgeous colour on that slipper
I always feel whenever I get a nice fresh fan from a new paph, the struggle is over, some just take more time then others.
Paphs do like to torture their owners, ya know?!

I think they really do. most are quite slow growers compated to some other orchids I have. at least my other paphs trow out new fans almost constantly if not right after bloom is finished. This one tortured me the most so far.
