All the paphs I have came in medium bark chips. I guess that works well at the green house setting, but seem to dry out too fast for me.
The top roots exposed to the air over the bark always look dry so I mist all the time. morning and evening.
After a long time of any acivity on this plant, I thought it was dying because I overwatered and killed the roots.
then I reduced watering to once a week and heavily mist everyday.

now it is getting back to growing mode. I think I will take it out of the old bark and plant it in a different mix. maybe wait for the little delicate nubbin to grow a little bigger.

growing little nubbin.

now it's much easier to identify. I've decided to postpone the repotting as I don't want to accidently break that little thing off.

The growing nubbin has cracked open and the first new leaf is beginning to poke out. I guess I'll have to forget about the repotting until this new little guy grow quite big so I don't risk breaking it off.

I possibly would repot at this point. A new fan is usually accompanied by new roots and it would be good to have them going into the new medium rather than disturbing them later. You would have to be careful about the new growth but they are not as delicate as you might think and I've not found it too difficult in the past.

The new fan is growing at surprisingly fast rate. I should post a new picture already. It's got three little leaves or leaf like structures.

Ok, I will repot and if the little thing break, I will fly to UK to find you. lol

But would add that any fresh fan from a new or older plant is a godsend and means it likes it's growing conditions!
and I also love the dark coloration of your flower!.
