Default Paph. concolor

Got this one in Oct. 2006 as a small seedling and it has it's first flower, I'm pretty pleased with it.

The first shot is taken outside in a semi shaded area, so naturally the colours didn't turn out right so I photoshopped it. My bad. But at least it looks almost like it really did in the shade.

The second picture is outdoors in full late day sun, I like how it brought out the intense gold. Must have been lucky that day.

Barbara, for most photos, shade will make the image too blue. That's what you are seeing. Nice blossom by the way.

Thanks everyone. I just realized that I actually got this one in Dec. 2006, not Oct. so it has come along fairly quickly.

Jeremy, this is an easy one as long as it's allowed to dry out between waterings. It does seem to demand more water when it's preparing to flower especially during the dry summer weather that we've been getting around here this year. I've alwo noticed that concolor seems to enjoy brighter conditions than I expected.

Ross, thank you for the observation, the colours were very washed out looking originally; but, I loved the composition so well, so I just had to use it anyway.

I keep hearing so many different ways to keep various orchids, including concolor. I read where one person is having great success with semi-hydro and one site says that they like shaded conditions.

Go figure.

I've noticed this too, it's a bit annoying, but everyones conditions are different. I originally had it in a shady spot (under a big bushy pheudobulb something or other) and when I noticed the base getting thinker, as if it was thinking of blooming, I moved it under 4ft. fluorescent growing lights where it got around 12 hours of light per day. Mine is in semi-coarse fir bark mix cramed in a small plastic pot and it seems happy enough with this situation. It seems to dry out enough (to the bottom of the pot) every 3 days. I also rescently added leucochilum to the collection and it seems to be enjoying the same conditions. I've also read that brachy's like to be planted a little (only slightly) above the growing mix so they don't get rot started in the crown.

Do you have concolor? If so, how are you keeping it? Thanks.
