Paph. delenatii ready to bloom?
I have a single growth Paph. delenatii that I bought in November. From the looks of it, it never bloomed before. It has started growing new roots and is growing a leaf. There is a hairy growth in the center and I was thinking that it could be a bloom spike. I'll take a picture. Quite a few paph flowers and spikes are hairy and from what I remember the new leaf was not hairy when it was small. So is this a spike? I've read that they flower between December and March.

Paph. delenatii
The stem of Paph delenatii is definately hairy and this is the right time of year for it to bloom, so it could be. With a photo we could confirm it for sure. ![Good Luck](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/goodluck.gif)

Without a pic it's hard to tell, but it sure sounds like a spike. New leaves aren't fuzzy! If you very gently squeeze the center of the fan, you should feel a lump if it is indeed a spike.

If this is a spike, how long will it take to grow until the flower opens?

Congratulations, it looks like spike! ![Smile](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/smile.gif)
Not sure how long it is for delenatii. My armeniacum started spike about a month ago and nowhere near to opening yet. I also read that some parvisepalums can take up to 4-6 months( malipoense for example).
Good luck and don't change anything in its environment.

No I'm growing under a two tube hanging fluorescent fixture with 2 40W Sylvania Gro-Lux tubes that are about 3 inches above my orchids. I am also growing two no ID phals and some other plants: kalanchoe, 3 Venus fly traps, an African violet, a hoya, a Mexican airplant, a Christmas cactus, and an avocado tree.
I'd love to try LEDs though. Does anyone here grow successfully under LEDs? I've heard contradicting info...

I thought you were using LED because your photo is purple! Anyway, I read LEDs are great if you have the money upfront. I dont like it personally because it hurts my eyes.
