I love paphiopedilum sanderianum except for the price. Are there any paphs (or phrags) that are $50 or less for a blooming size plant that have petals that are 1 foot or more in length. It does not have to be a multifloral, strap leaf.

Just so you know I water my plants mostly with hard well water and rain water, melted snow, or dehumidifier water when I can. So it can't be too picky about water.

Phrag. Grande is long twirly petaled. Piping Rock has one for $49.95. Most Phrags are sensitive to water quality though. Paph. Lefty Kei also at Piping Rock is $64.95. You're going to have a difficult time finding anything long petaled for under $50 that is blooming size.

Carter and Holmes Orchids have some at reasonable prices. They may be seedlings.

The long petals is a feature that seems to add to the price, the longer the petals the higher the price it seems, so most of them are expensive. I think Near Blooming size on something like the Michael Koopowitz might be your best bet.

I just bought one of those, but it was no where near blooming size. It's one of those purchases you do because you want the unique flowers and long petals, but you have to be willing to wait or pay the price for current blooming. I was more than happy to pay $40 for mine, although it will be a few years before it blooms.
