I have a Paph. Magical Venus in bloom. How long will the blooms last? Is ther anything I can do to make to blooms last longer (such as moving to a lower/same/higher light area, more/less fertilizer ect.)? It has two already bloomed growths and one that is blooming, will this paph. form another flower when this flower is done? I couldn't find any care information, I am currently growing it under paph. delenatii conditions, is this alright? Thanks so much for answering my questions!

I would expect blooms on this type of hybrid to last 1-2 months, perhaps a little longer if you are lucky. The only change that might prolong the life of the flower significantly is cooler temps - no warmer than 60F days and about 50F nights. And keep it evenly moist of course, but make sure you don't over-water at cooler temps.

Normally this type of hybrid will have a single flower per spike, sometimes 2 but you should be able to see a large bud behind the first flower now if there will be a second one. Otherwise you need to wait for the next growth to mature before you will get another flower.

This is a Maudiae type Paph. Care instructions should be easy to find. Or if you prefer you can look at Paph venustum, Paph sukhakulii and Paph callosum. Those are the major species in this hybrid.

I read this on a website:"If it is wished to grow the plant into a large specimen, it may simply be placed into a new pot large enough to accommodate two years' future growth. When settled into its new home, the rhizome between the new growth and the growth that has just finished flowering may be severed and the cut sprinkled with sulphur. This will induce formation of a new growth and, if the process is repeated each year, will soon produce a large plant."

Is this true? I don't quite understand? How can I get my paphs to have two or more new growths a year so I can have 2 or more blooms a year? I've seen plants that have lots of blooms of paph delenatii. How do I get mine to do this?

From what I have read about Paphs (and most other sympodial orchids) the connected colony of growths is much more vigorous than single growth plants. If your culture is good the plant will grow well and once they reach a certain size they will begin to put up multiple growths often. I have experienced that with my Paph. sukhakulii. It was very small when I got it and at first it grew very slowly. I made sure to repot annually and paid attention to keeping it evenly moist and fed. It now has 5 new growths started and is blooming from 2 spikes with 2 more on the way. I'm not exactly sure how many mature growths it has on it but it's quite bushy for a small plant. Be patient, give it good culture and you will be rewarded.
