bud- I do have large window but they are mostly north or northeast. I wish it was east and southeast. oh, well.
I have plants lined up along the window although not seen in the picture. then I have some on the table, in the bathroom( I leave the light on all day) and under LED light in the kitchen. no table on top of table or holes on the ceiling yet though. lol
I have lots of plants for space and rotate them around. I put the ones in active growth by the window or under light (the brightest spots I can provide) and the one in near open bud or in flower anywhere I like to have them.
greenbean- I do like mine, it's just that it wasn't what I was looking for. I am posting a picture of what I want to have below.
Daethen- It's because I only posted pictures of the 'good' parts. The two other growths I mentioned are droopy, which is usually an indication of not enough light while growing. The plant looks fine overall, which is why I got it.
BikerDoc5968- I am sorry to hear about your loss. I hope the collection didn't contain anything too rare or expensive. Then again, even the cheap common ones carry significant meaning at times. like a common white with red lip phal I have, I could always get a new one but it's such a nice grower and flowers well that I think I will be very sad if I lost that plant.
By the way, if you ever visit NYC, go to 28th street between 6th and 7th avenue in Manhattan. It's just one street with stores on both side of the street so hitting all the stores won't take much time. They all carry pretty much the same stuff, but about three stores carry some interesting orchids. so I recommend that you visit them all and see if you find anything that you like. well, at least interesting for me. You won't find anything other than generally popular kinds though, like phals, paphs, catts&cyms (seasonal and very limited supply), dens, vanda, oncidium and related hybrids, and rarely other orchids like mokara, neostylis, zygo, masdevallia, etc are found.
Those stores keep bringing new plants weekly basis and many people shop, so you just have to be lucky to find something good unless you are there everyday. lol
For example, the store where I got this paph, the store owner had a whole bunch of complex type paphs last friday. I was there the day before and he told me he would make a orchid farm visit and bring many. He told me to stop by this week to see flowers as most of them would be in bud and I like to see what the flowers look like. Don't we all?
Well, when I visited him this week, there were only a few left. He told me they were prety much all sold the day they were brought in. Those are mostly people who run florist shops else where in the city. They come and buy plants and sell them at much higher price. and they buy plants in bud. It's hard to beat them in competition as they are money driven and I am a hobby grower who's more interested in specific look, which I cannot tell if plants are in bud.
oh, well...I keep trying and do what I can.
By the way, visit those stores in the morning. They open very early and close around noon, though some stay open a bit later. before noon is the best time to visit.
