Buds emerging on Paph.Yosemite Moon x fairrieanum
Default Buds emerging on Paph.Yosemite Moon x fairrieanum

This is one of my favorite paphs. It just grew lots of leaves and several growths without flowering for almost two years. Then I noticed a small bud poking out, then another one in October.
It seemed they both stopped getting any bigger and just stucked in there between the leaves.
I thought something went wrong with them or something, then it started to get bigger and taller again, very ve~ry slowly!

The bloom picture is from two years ago.

Default Updates on my paph.

So in the past one week or so, these little buds emerged more than they did in the past one month. They were literally stuck for almost a month it seemed. Now I know they are still alive.

They are well above the leaves. I no longer have to look hard in between leaves to observe them.

Anyway, I found that one of the two buds is possibly aborted. It will be so nice to see two flowers together after not seeing bloom on this plant in two years, but one is better than nothing I guess.

The bud closer to the window in the first picture corresponds to the bud toward the bottom of the picture in the second pic. then the last two are the close ups of that bud.
In the second picture, you can sort of see that the sheath that covers the flower bud is open a littl bit. What I see is a very dark oval shaped thing inside.
The bud is supposed to be green. This is not a dark flowered plant.
I will have to wait a little longer to confirm, but sadly, it looks dead.

Default An update...

Well, I was panicing over the dark bud inside the bud sheath. Now the spike is growing taller and taller every day and the dark bud looked that way because it was heavily covered with dark hair. Very interesting.

All is fine and I am very excited about the bloom which I expect will be in January. I will post pictures of the progress soon, but in the meantime, I'm posting another picture (I found after much digging) of this plant when I first bought it. It was just a single growth plant and it has now 4 growths with two spikes.

Default Here's an update with photos...

Yeah, I love the light yellow/white combination of this flower and so excite to see it again soon!

I took these two pictures today. The black bud I was worried about was due to lots of tiny little hairs on the bud. As the bud grows larger and hairs thin out, I can now see the green bud underneath the dark hairs.
How interesting!

I am super relieved to know that the buds are fine.

Default Trying hard to keep the spike straight up!

Now that the spikes are growing well above the foliage, they are turning toward where the light comes in on my window. I diligently turn the pot a little bit every other day to get the spikes as straight up as possible.

One of the joy every morning is when I mist this guy on the roots, examine which direction and how much the spikes moved, then adjust the pot accordingly.

two or three more weeks to go still...

That's a nice fat bud on a healthy looking plant. Maybe I'm not diligent enough, but I've given up on rotating the plants when they are in bud. All I seem to do is confuse them and end up with the bloom being all skewed.
