I thought I was bringing this Paphiopedilum back to life as it has been growing. It has three healthy looking leaves, and had one more lower leaf that turned yellow. That was my clue to take the plant out of it's pot to inspect it. Roots don't seem very long. It's been growing in moss, inside a terrarium. Any suggestions how to help it?
That is not "short roots", that is "no roots". Looks like densely-packed moss has suffocated them.
If you want to revive it, soak the entire plant for an hour or so in tepid water containing about 1 to 2 ml K-L-N per liter, pot it up in something that "breathes" better than moss, put it on a heat mat, and pray.
K-L-N is a product by DynaGro. It is a liquid rooting hormone that works well on orchids. Good luck. I have one that is struggling too and not sure what it wants. I usually pot mine in fine bark.
I've managed to keep a no-root paph alive for 8 months by daily misting. However I've not managed to persuade it to grow leaves and I had two of these plants, the other of which didn't make it.
I'm interested in the KLN idea, I might have to get more of that to try and persuade it to root finally.
