This type of breeding is not terribly uncommon, though crosses using Paph primulinum are more often seen than with the other sequential flowering species like moquetteanum. When most successful the flowers are more delicate and refined than the bulldog parent, with better texture and form than the sequential parent, and at least some tendency to have 2 or 3 semi-sequential flowers. As good as some are they are really just a first step toward fully sequential bloomers with flowers of good form. There are some breeding goals you can never achieve if you insist that every cross be an 'improvement' over the parents.
